Community Plan Updates

West Maui Community Plan
The Maui County Council will hold a public hearing on the Draft West Maui Community Plan in late November, with first and second readings of the ordinance to adopt the updated plan before their deadline in January 2022. This will be the first community plan on Maui updated since the adoption of the Maui Island Plan in 2012.
South Maui Community Plan
We completed the community design portion of our public engagement at the end of October. In our continuing effort to meet people where they are, we used all the virtual tools at our disposal, creating multiple ways for the community to be engaged in planning for the future. For those who wanted to participate at their own pace, we had an online workshop featuring Social Pinpoint that could be accessed 24/7. In the end, we had nearly
600 comments with this tool alone. We also offered weekly Talk Story Tuesdays from mid-September to the end of October. Participants could talk with long-range planners about anything on their mind about South Maui. While turnout was low for these events (5-6 for each meeting), the lower numbers allowed us plenty of time to dig in deep on topics that mattered to the participants. We also offered virtual meetings with interest groups in the region, but only one group took advantage of that option. All the comments we collected during this phase of the process will help us craft growth scenarios for the community to consider in January. You can find more information about the update at
