This presentation will describe recent zoning-related efforts undertaken by the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP).  It will focus on monster homes, short-term rentals, islandwide food truck regulations, and other current issues. The City Council has been keeping the DPP busy with many proposed Land Use Ordinance (LUO) amendments.  Katia Balassiano, AICP, Land Use Permits Division Chief, will describe the various pieces of Council-proposed legislation and the status of DPP’s review and analysis.

Also on the agenda are the DPP’s plans for comprehensively updating the LUO.  The scope and timing of this effort, and how APA Hawaii can assist by assembling a working group to generate input for the DPP, will be discussed.
