Land ownership and development can be a contentious subject in Hawai‘i. Landowners, developers, and planners can spend years and millions of dollars on proposed land use developments only to find themselves in contested case hearings and court cases. At the same time, there is a growing interest and understanding that Hawai‘i's most precious landscapes and their natural and cultural resources should be protected to improve our quality of life, move Hawai‘i toward a more sustainable future, and ensure that the natural and cultural heritage of Hawai‘i is preserved for future generations. Kawika Burgess will be presenting about the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust and voluntary land conservation options available to create win/win solutions in Hawai‘i.
